Grace Millane: Police Search For British Tourist Missing in New Zealand

Grace Millane was last seen on Saturday evening in central Auckland.

But the 22-year-old was last in contact with her family the day before her birthday, on Sunday, and concerns for her safety are now mounting.

Her family, from Wickford, near Basildon, said they spoke to her "most days", describing her silence as "completely out of character".

"She arrived here on the 20th of November, and has been bombarding us with numerous photographs and messages of her adventures", Millane said.

Her older brother Michael Millane told United Kingdom news website Echo that the family are finding the uncertainty extremely hard.

She has not returned to her hostel room in Auckland, New Zealand, and family members have had no contact since Saturday, December 1.

Newstalk ZB reporter Chelsea Daniels attended the Police press conference and told Larry Williams the longer it carries on without any sightings, the more worrying it is.

Her brother Michael said: "It was what she wanted - she wanted to see the world".

Grace Millane hasn't been in contact with her family for six days. She had been staying at a backpacker hostel and left some of her belongings there.

Michael said the family are finding the uncertainty extremely hard. He said they were waiting for the British banks to update them on when Grace Millane's credit cards were last used.

However she was travelling alone when she came to New Zealand about two weeks ago.

A Foreign Office spokesman said: "We are in contact with New Zealand police and providing consular support after a British woman was reported missing in Auckland".
