Phillies, Mariners Nearing Deal Centered Around Jean Segura

Of course, in order to land a star player like Machado or Harper, as great as it is to see the Phillies having money to spend, they also need to prove they have what it takes to compete for a World Series title.

But it turns out their first noteworthy move of the 2018-2019 offseason includes neither Harper nor Machado.

Crawford, 23, was once a top 10 prospect in all of baseball, but he's lost his luster the past few years.

Details are still emerging but this is an exciting move for the Phillies. In 2018, he had a.304/.341/.415 slash line with 10 home runs, 63 RBIs, 91 runs scored, and 20 stolen bases in 632 plate appearances.

Even with Santana's sizable salary, the Mariners shed a ton of financial obligation in the trade - and that's with Seattle reportedly paying Segura $1 million to waive his no-trade clause. How about Santana? Why are they giving up on him so early in his contract? It would be pretty surprising at this point if Segura wasn't with the Phillies before the Winter Meetings, which start next Monday, and it seems like Crawford will be involved.

Segura is the sixth player Seattle has parted ways with since the beginning of November. Crawford hit just.214 with 18 RBIs in 72 games over the last two seasons. He has failed to finish a season hitting.260 at any level since 2016, when he batted.265 in 36 games with Double-A Reading.

NASA chooses nine companies to bid on flying to Moon
In October, NASA issued a call for potential lunar instruments and technologies to study the Moon, with proposals due in January. The CLPS announcement comes as NASA conducts safety reviews of two of its major private partners, SpaceX and Boeing.

Shortstop was a place Phillies General Manager Matt Klentak was not happy with last season.

The deal will be announced tomorrow once everything has been finalized. Phillies shortstops slashed a combined.235/.281/.370 at the plate and weren't any better in the field. Meanwhile, Segura saved five runs.

There is speculation that the Phillies might actually be willing to sign both Machado and Harper. It doesn't change a whole lot.

After reportedly reaching a deal to acquire Jean Segura from the Seattle Mariners, the Phillies are reportedly still interested in signing at least one of the bigger free agents available.

At shortstop last season, Segura only had 17 errors and a fielding percentage of.969, which is a vast improvement from 2017 where he had a.962 Fld%. He could be a quality lead-off man if that's the path the Phillies choose.
