Kendrick Lamar Received The Most 2019 Grammy Nominations

As with previous year, hip-hop dominated across the board - though in 2018, the Recording Academy fell under sharp criticism after rap mogul Jay-Z left empty-handed and Lamar was shut out of the general categories.

Pianists Fred Hersch and Brad Mehldau, saxophonists Tia Fuller and Miguel Zenón, and vocalists Gregory Porter and Cécile McLorin Salvant are among the nominees for the 61st Grammy Awards. While the duo did secure three nominations including, Best Urban Contemporary Album, Best R&B Performance, and Best Music Video for "APESHIT", folks are big mad that they were not nominated in some of the major categories, specifically Album Of The Year.

The Recording Academy considered recordings released between October 1, 2017, and September 30, 2018.

Women are also dominating in the Album of the Year section, and we're proud to see breakout artists H.E.R. and Tierra Whack pop up in a few spots as well.

A New Election Might Be the Only Way Forward in North Carolina
If the results are certified when the board meets December 21, the loser can contest the result within 30 days. One month after the midterms, a congressional race in North Carolina is still undecided.

Taylor Swift was also snubbed by the Recording Academy over her album "Reputation". West, who has never won a Grammy in a major category, was also nominated for just one Grammy, for best non-classical producer. Monáe, herself snagged an Album Of The Year nomination for her most recent project, Dirty Computer. Their direct competitors are Gregory Porter, for Nat "King" Cole & Me, as well as Seal, Barbra Streisand and Willie Nelson, for albums largely featuring songbook standards.

Critics love Brandi Carlile, but the folk singer-songwriter is not exactly a household name. The DAMN. rapper is up for eight awards: Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Rap Performance ("King's Dead"), two for Best Rap Song ("King's Dead" and "WIN"), and Best Rap/Sung Performance and Best Song Written for Visual Media. If a best new artist nomination can be categorized as "long overdue", Price qualifies.

It's not a surprise that Cardi B is up for Grammy Awards, but fans might be confused that she is not nominated for best new artist.

For a little perspective, Carlile's six nominations are more than the five each received by red-hot stars Cardi B and Childish Gambino - two of the most talked-about artists of the year.
