Mueller investigation: No jail time sought for Trump ex-adviser Michael Flynn

During a Twitter tear on the Mueller investigation, Mr. Trump cheered on former campaign adviser Roger Stone for resisting to work with the special counsel's team.

President Donald Trump's former national security adviser provided so much information to the special counsel's Russian Federation investigation that prosecutors say he shouldn't do any prison time, according to a court filing today that describes Michael Flynn's cooperation as "substantial".

Fox News senior judicial analyst Judge Andrew Napolitano disagrees with speculation that Special Counsel Robert Mueller is nearing the end game of his investigation.

Last year, Flynn pleaded guilty to lying to the Federal Bureau of Investigation about communications he had with a Russian official about sanctions during the presidential transition, and Flynn has since been cooperating with Mueller's probe.

The detailing of Flynn's cooperation also comes as Trump has increasingly vented his anger at the probe - and at one of his former confidantes who cooperated with it. His sentencing is set for December 18.

Cohen, once Trump's self-described "fixer", admitted he lied to Congress when he said efforts to pursue the Moscow project ended in January 2016, when they actually continued until June 2016, after Trump had clinched the Republican presidential nomination.

Mueller has wasted no time bringing into court other cooperating witnesses, such as George Papadopoulos, a former campaign adviser, and Paul Manafort, once Trump's campaign chairman, to face penalties for lying to his investigators or not fully cooperating.

Last week, Corsi refused Mueller's offer for a plea deal over his role as a suspected intermediary between Stone and WikiLeaks, saying he was prepared to spend the "rest of my life" in prison rather than "sign a lie".

He has instead spent considerable time with his family and worked to position himself for a post-conviction career.

Prosecutors said the two men discussed US sanctions against Russian Federation and that Flynn also asked Kislyak to help delay a United Nations vote seen as damaging to Israel.

Flynn admitted in his plea that he spoke to the Russians at the direction of Trump transition team officials. A source close to Flynn said that after one campaign appearance for a Republican in California, the retired intelligence officer was advised not to make any further political appearances before the midterms and his scheduled sentencing this month.

According to memos written by former FBI Director James Comey, Trump tried to protect Flynn by asking Comey to let the investigation into his false statements go. According to later congressional testimony, acting interim attorney general Sally Yates warned the administration that Flynn's contacts with Russian Federation made him susceptible to blackmail, while former FBI Director James Comey testified that Trump pressured him to refrain from investigating Flynn. The White House has said Flynn misled officials - including Vice President Mike Pence - about the content of his conversations.

Flynn, who turns 60 on Wednesday, is among a number of people in Trump's orbit who have pleaded guilty to criminal charges.
