Michelle Obama's advice to Meghan Markle: "Take some time"

Michelle Obama's advice to Meghan Markle:

Michelle Obama was honest with her readers during an appearance at Barclays Center in Brooklyn on Saturday night for her Becoming book tour. "Nope, not at the same time", she said, according to The Cut.

Mrs. Obama then said she forgot where she was a bit when she said "shit".

On Twitter, some took offense to Obama's use of a curse word.

"Leaning in" was first popularised in 2013 by Sandberg, the now-embattled Facebook executive, in her book titled, "Lean In: Women, Work, and the Will to Lead".

Mrs Obama, 54, was visiting the school, which has many students from deprived homes, as part of a publicity tour for her bestselling memoir titled Becoming.

Obama shared her vivid memories of not fitting in when she was a working-class girl in Chicago because she was so determined to be the best student, to always work hard and learn as much as she could.

"That's a lie", she said.

"As much as we wanted children. kids are an interrupter", Mrs. Obama added.

In 2017, Sandberg herself acknowledged that her book was not as effective in changing workplace culture and inequality as she had hoped it would be, stating: "We are stuck at less than 6 percent of the Fortune 500 CEO jobs and their equivalent in nearly every country in the world".

Obama recalled her first few months in the White House and getting her two daughters, Malia and Sasha, adjusted to their new life.

The advice for women to "lean in" has been criticized before. "I think it's okay - it's good, even - to do that", Obama said. "It is hard. I love my husband, and we have a great marriage, and we've had a great marriage, but marriage is hard work".

More recently, "leaning in" and Sandberg's leadership were placed under additional scrutiny after controversy erupted around Facebook and Russian interference in the 2016 election.

Obama quickly apologised for swearing, New York Magazine reported.

On social media, Obama's words were met with widespread approval.

Naturally, this makes the former first lady the right person to share some sound ― and sweet ― advice for Meghan Markle as the Duchess of Sussex deals with a whole new global level of fame.

"People are like, 'Oh, why'd she talk about marriage counselling?'" she continued.
