Bulls fire Hoiberg, promote Boylen to head coach

The Chicago Bulls have fired head coach Fred Hoiberg and named associate coach Jim Boylen as head coach.

"Decisions like this one are never easy to make, however I felt this was the right choice for our organization at this time. After a thorough evaluation, I elected to make this move with the overall development of our team in mind", Bulls executive vice president John Paxson announced in a statement Monday morning.

In a 5-19 start to the season, the team is now 14th in the Eastern Conference out of 15 teams.

The Bulls have been riddled by injuries all year. The Bulls used that pick for 7-foot power forward Lauri Markkanen. In more than three seasons, the Bulls were 115-155 under Hoiberg.

During his time at Iowa State, the Cyclones made four straight trips to the NCAA Tournament, including an appearance in the Sweet 16, for the most consecutive showings in the program's history while pumping in an average of 283 3-pointers per season - a pretty respectable mark for a college squad. He has 20 years of National Basketball Association coaching experience and has been a part of three National Basketball Association championship teams. Derrick Rose, Jimmy Butler, Pau Gasol and Nikola Mirotic were among the departures as the Bulls tried to find the right formula.
