Jimmy Butler trade: Report says Timberwolves complete deal with 76ers

Butler requested a trade away from Minnesota late in the offseason, with the Brooklyn Nets, New York Knicks, Los Angeles Clippers and Miami Heat his preferred destinations, according to reports.

According to Jon Krawczynski and Shams Charania of The Athletic, the Philadelphia 76ers have acquired the four-time All-Star from the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The Sixers are trading forwards Robert Covington and Dario Saric, guard Jerryd Bayless, and a 2020 second-round pick for Butler and forward Justin Patton, sources said. After weeks upon weeks of one of the weirdest trade sagas in recent National Basketball Association memory, the Minnesota Timberwolves made a decision to send Butler back to the Eastern Conference.

The Timberwolves have lost five straight games, putting them ahead of only the Dallas Mavericks and Phoenix Suns in the Western Conference standings.

The 76ers, meanwhile, have gotten off to a slower start than expected.

In addition to the deal, the reports claims that Philadelphia and Butler expect to reach a deal on a long-team contract this summer.

Following the 2018-19 season, Butler will be an unrestricted free agent and Philadelphia had previously expressed interest in adding Butler to make up a big three with Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons.
