Malibu residents ordered out as California wildfire nears

The city of Malibu along the California coast is under mandatory evacuation this morning after a wildfire known as the Woolsey Fire jumped across the 101 freeway and began burning south.

As the Woolsey fire approaches Malibu, all areas south of the 101 Freeway from Ventura County line to Las Virgenes/Malibu Cyn, southward to the ocean, were told to leave immediately after the fire jumped the 101 at Liberty Cyn Rd and Chesebro Rd in nearby Agoura Hills.

Meanwhile, a third fire is raging in the northern part of the state in Butte County where dry winds have swept the Camp Fire across at least 70,400 acres north of Sacramento, after quadrupling in size overnight Thursday.

The entire city of Malibu was ordered to evacuate Friday morning as well as surrounding areas south of Highway 101, the entire community of Oak Park and sections of Thousand Oaks, according to a Ventura County incident webpage.

"We are still reeling, but we are also very resilient", she said.

The brush fire was first reported around 6:30 AM Thursday morning and burned roughly 18,000 acres by midday Thursday.

A separate fire is threatening Malibu and has caused the city to be evacuated.

Fire officials have issued evacuation orders for homes in areas of Chico, Calif., which has a population of roughly 93,000 people.

Late Thursday, more than 2,200 firefighters were battling the flames and the fire remains uncontained, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal Fire). She had been filming aerial shots in her private plane earlier for her Instagram Stories and realized her own home was threatened.

Caitlyn Jenner's home in the Malibu hills has burned down, TMZ reports.

Video of her drive out of town shows the fire emitting an orange-red glow in the distance in the nighttime sky.

Only a day after it began, the fire near the town of Paradise had grown to almost 110 square miles (285 square kilometers). The Hill Fire is over 10,000 acres and the Woolsey Fire is 2,000 acres. "You pose a danger to yourself and emergency responders", Ventura County Fire Department Captain Scott Dettorre said about the drivers.
