Here's a first look at Samsung’s new foldable smartphone

Analyst Bob O'Donnell with Technalysis Research said while the bendable screen provided a wow factor, shoppers may not like the thickness of the folded phone or its price tag.

Samsung has finally unveiled the long-rumored foldable smartphone.

Since this is yet another Android Go product, don't expect to be blown away by specs; the Samsung Galaxy J4 Core is a budget device through-and-through but should be more than capable for anyone who needs a stylish Android Go phone. They've been teasing a folding model for about five years now, and here it is. It's comprised of three optimized areas - the operating system, Google Play Store, and Google apps - ... Interestingly, while Samsung high-ups demonstrated the phone on stage, nobody else at the event was given the chance to get their hands on it. A Bloomberg report a few days ago provided a similar detail about the phone's front-facing camera, and we had seen reports out of South Korea before then that said the same thing. Samsung also has a New Infinity display in the works, as pointed out in the same image as the notched displays, though there's no news on what that display would be like. A new foundation? Why would we want our displays to fold?

A lesser known Chinese electronics company called Royole unveiled a foldable phone earlier this week.

Emma Thompson becomes a dame but doesn't get to kiss Prince William
Thompson's husband, actor and producer Greg Wise , 31-year-old son Tindyebwa and 18-year-old daughter Gaia attended the ceremony. Even a ceremony as grand as receiving a damehood couldn't stifle Emma Thompson's quick wit.

Not alike: I've previously reported on the foldable smartphone rumor.

Samsung also used the developers conference to announce it would begin letting app developers use Bixby, its artificial-intelligence platform for Samsung's smartphones and home appliances.

Other companies: Google has started working on foldable devices, too, The Verge reports.
