Celtics rally from 22 down to top Suns in OT

Saying the Boston Celtics' start to the season has been less than ideal would be a small understatement.

It was a rough first half for the Celtics on Thursday.

The Celtics' starters scored just 13 of the team's 35 points and they trailed Phoenix by 20 points going into the break.

Then, things started getting weird.

Irving scored Boston's first six points in the extra period, and Marcus Morris finished with 17 against his former team - including the tying 3-pointer with 1.1 seconds left in regulation off a feed from Irving.

Phoenix's lead grew to as large as 22, but the Celtics responded.

Boston was in Phoenix for a matchup with the Suns, and after 24 minutes, everything was looking bad for the road team. His scoring has fallen to only 7.5 points per game, and his lack of playing time and production has led to discord within the Celtics roster, according to reports.

Irving led the way with 39 points, including 18 in the fourth quarter and overtime. Tatum had only four points, but he hit the final two free throws to seal the victory.

Boston got the lead down to 14 in the second, but a 3 from Booker gave the Suns a 48-26 advantage with 4:31 left in the half.

Sure, it was against a rebuilding team that ranks last in the National Basketball Association in point differential, but there's something to be said about recovering from a awful start to post a thrilling road win.

The Celtics shot a meager 21.7 percent from the field in the half - 10-for-46 - and committed 10 turnovers. His defensive stops disrupted the Suns, while his shooting made all the difference for him and the rest of the Celtics. You can tell the way I play I'm all about team. Smart provided the assist.

Celtics will take on the Jazz Friday before closing out their five-game west coast swing in Portland on Sunday.
