Ron DeSantis Won Florida Governor's Race by Tying Himself to Trump

Republican Ron DeSantis defeated Democrat Andrew Gillum in Florida's hotly contested race for Governor.

It's unclear why it took so long to correct the error, but the network has come under fire during the President Donald Trump presidency for moving further and further to the left. State Rep. Blaise Ingoglia, who chairs the state's Republican Party, said it's proof yet again that the GOP in Florida is better organized.

Gillum told reporters he had visited the more conservative Florida panhandle on Monday to "let them know that you plan to work on their behalf also" if elected.

But ultimately, the issues of the day didn't define Florida's race for Governor.

But unlike the 2016 presidential election, Gillum had a swell of progressive enthusiasm hoping for change, which proved a formidable challenge to a candidate advocating for a continuation of the same party that has held the governor's mansion for more than two decades. The day after Gillum won the Democratic primary, DeSantis said Florida voters shouldn't "monkey this up" by electing Gillum. Kamala Harris, all of whom campaigned in the state at Gillum's side.

An FBI investigation into corruption raised some uncomfortable questions for Mr Gillum about a Broadway staging of Hamilton, a trip to Costa Rica, and a former college friend. "All the way along this path", Gillum said.

For his part, Gillum, the Tallahassee mayor, presented a platform that was in stark contrast to the President's on national policies that governors have little control over.

Drivers flouting traffic laws were blamed for nearly 90% of accidents that caused deaths or injuries that year. The truck driver, who was only slightly injured in the crash, is under police guard and is being investigated.

But Trump called Gillum a "stone-cold thief", and DeSantis repeatedly said on the campaign trail that he's "the only candidate that isn't the subject of an FBI investigation". And since DeSantis fully embraced Trumpism, Hume insisted the the president could be responsible for the congressman's defeat. He beat Putnam by 20 percentage points.

Big election day tomorrow!

Youth votes, which went heavily for Gillum, soared, but not enough to overcome the elderly vote, which was dominated by DeSantis.

The Ponte Vedra Republican pledged to veto any and all tax increases for the next four years, contending that a state's low-tax environment is its greatest asset for expanding the economy.

But the Republican defended himself and his supporters against the racist label, while slamming his Democratic opponent for backing a major tax-hike proposal and wanting to expand government programs, including health care.

The stark differences between the two candidates and the negative nature of the race were crystallized in two vitriolic debates. If he wins the general election, he'd be the first Black Governor in the state's history. "So it does not surprise me that Gillum would be supporting Dream Defenders".
