Barcelona will not risk Messi against Inter, assures Valverde

Coach Ernesto Valverde said on Friday he did not rule Messi out of playing against Inter, but said he was concerned about rushing the player back, especially as his side are on a winning run without their usual talisman.

'Leo is at the point where he might be available, but we have to wait for the training session.

"The ghost of Butarque appeared everywhere in moments in that second half", Valverde told reporters. More than anything because he is one more [player] and so we have more to choose from. "Of course, it is necessary for Messi to recover".

Messi, who missed Barcelona's 5-1 thrashing of Real Madrid in last Sunday's El Clasico which led to the sacking of Julen Lopetegui, was reportedly set to be absent for three weeks.

Messi watched from the stands in the return fixture as Rafinha and Jordia Alba scored to give Barcelona a 2-0 victory.

He said: "To already be in this situation in the fourth game of the group is great".

"We need to control the game to have that chance", Valverde added.

Barcelona on Saturday, November 3, produced a superb performance in the Spanish La Liga as they scored two goals at the death to beat Rayo Vallecano 3-2 in a tough game.

"We're expecting a similar opponent to the one we had at Camp Nou - definitely more aggressive because of the pressure [on them]".

"They're a very intense team that wants to dominate and are in a good moment of form. We expect a better Inter".
