Kershaw, Dodgers agree to an extension

The Los Angeles Dodgers and three-time Cy Young Award victor Clayton Kershaw reached an agreement on a contract extension Friday that will keep the seven-time All-Star with the club through 2021.

The deal is reportedly worth $93 million with incentives, according to The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal. The Dodgers have not announced the terms on the money. "I'm looking forward to proving a lot of people wrong with that". Kershaw had an opt-out clause that allowed him to forgo the remaining two years and $65MM on his contract and had until 4pm ET today to make a decision on that clause.

At 30, Kershaw has experience a fastball velocity decrease, and he missed time this season because of two stints on the disabled list. Hampered by injuries in 2018, he started 26 regular-season games and posted a 9-5 record with a 2.73 ERA. In 11 Major League Baseball seasons, all with the Dodgers, Kershaw is 153-69 with a 2.39 ERA.

The left-hander also can earn award bonuses of $1.5 million for winning the NL Cy Young Award or $500,000 for finishing second or third in the voting. He was 4-3 with a 2.36 ERA with the Cubs. He gave up four runs in seven innings in Game 5 of the World Series.

Many argue Tom Brady , and others say it's Aaron Rodgers , but we'll get to see them go at it in a probable shootout of a game. They do a good job of pressuring the quarterback, a really good third-down team, a good coverage team on the kicking game.

"It was more valuable to me to just stay here", he said. Their primary starting catcher had a $4.5 million option for next season with a $100,000 buyout. He signed a seven-year, $215 million with the franchise in 2013 that included an option that he could become a free agent after the fifth-season.

A free agent can be made a qualifying offer only if he has been with the same team continuously since opening day and has never received a qualifying offer before. By extending a qualifying offer, a team is in line to receive draft-pick compensation if the player signs with another team.

To create salary space, the Cubs agreed to deal pitcher Drew Smyly to the Texas Rangers on Friday.
