Jurgen Klopp did not understand why Sadio Mane's first-half goal was ruled out for offside, but admitted he did not think that could be blamed for his side's 1-1 draw against Arsenal. He scores important goals, makes important challenges, is a good passer of the ball and nearly always completes 90 minutes.

"The first half was hard, but in the second half we were better and more physical".

And although the Reds dropped their interest in Nabil Fekir when they found out about the Frenchman's chances of suffering another serious knee injury in the future, Klopp says he doesn't expect to dip into the January transfer market. The one real hope for a title race worthy of the name this season is that Liverpool remains in touch with City despite being some way short of its best.

"We were not compact enough, simple as that", Klopp said.

Klopp then changed his system at the interval, moving to a 4-2-3-1 formation with Milner moving to the right side and Firmino ahead of Salah.

James Milner may not get the plaudits Liverpool's front three receive on a consistent basis, but his importance to the team is undeniable.

After buying the club in 2010, and pumping millions in to it, it went onto win the Premier League title in 2016. His body arrived in his native country on Friday, ahead of the traditional ceremony.

With the draw in north London, Liverpool have extended their unbeaten streak to 11 games and in the process have only conceded four goals.

"I was not a good football player but I was good at heading and today I would have scored three". "It would have been a very good moment, going [in] 1-0 [up] at half-time". We didn't have that in the first half, but when we played we were immediately unsafe. When we had the ball it was good, we were a threat, we were in behind. The ball had bounced via Virgil van Dijk and Holding, and then against the post.

Arsenal brought pretty much all of their strikers [on]...

Murphy added: "I've really liked seeing the Gomez and van Dijk partnership come together this season". They play the ball through and could score the goal. Both came and flapped at crosses during the game which nearly saw them concede, but on Liverpool's goal Leno was caught pushing a harmless cross back into danger when he probably should have stood back and let one of his defenders clear.

Substitute Alex Iwobi, who was switched across the pitch to the left flank shortly after coming on, slipped a smart pass through to Lacazette, who showed great composure to turn away from Alisson before bending in the equaliser. It's not nice, but of course a point at Arsenal will always be an absolutely good result.

We all knew that things had turned sour under Wenger long before he was ushered off-stage at the end of last season, but it is has taken the sun to start shining again for everyone to realise how dark it became as the old regime staggered toward irrelevance.
