Banksy Releases A 'Director's Cut' Video About 'Girl With Balloon'

Banksy Releases A 'Director's Cut' Video About 'Girl With Balloon'

Street artist Banksy has shared a clip of himself constructing and executing the shredding of his painting, which sold at auction for more the $1million.

After the "Girl with a Balloon" delivered the £860,000 ($1.1mn) winning bid at a Contemporary Art Evening Auction at Sotheby's London on October 5, the spray paint and acrylic on canvas illustration suddenly partially self-destructed.

Banksy released a new video this week that suggested the partial-destruction was a malfunction: It showed an identical print in the same frame being entirely shredded, with the caption "in rehearsals it worked every time".

One of the biggest stories in the art world this year was street artist Banksy having his painting "self-destruct" just moments after the work sold for almost $1.4 million at auction. The POV footage includes the person mingling among the crowd, speaking with attendees, and pushing the button as soon as "Girl With Balloon" was auctioned for approximately $1.3 million. "Some people think the auction house were in on it, they weren't".

When a Banksy painting "self-destructed" after selling at auction for £1.04 million ($1.4 million) last week, it looked like the flawless stunt - one that caught onlookers and the art world by surprise.

Michigan State: The O-line must open running lanes and give Lewerke time to throw, which is easier said than done for this group. IN quarterback Peyton Ramsey finished with one touchdown and two interceptions, completing 31 of 42 pass attempts for 263 yards.

Described as a "director's cut", the three-minute video offers further evidence of how the anonymous artist installed the shredder.

Most experts believed the painting was meant to stop halfway through shredding, an act that actually doubled the value of the artwork.

Perhaps in the end the real story isn't that Banksy destroyed his painting, but ended up creating a new piece of art after all even when it didn't go completely as planned.

The European buyer has said she intends to keep the artwork as her "own piece of art history".
