Tennis Ace Novak Djokovic Hails Family After Shanghai Win

The 31-year-old Serbian needed one hour and 36 minutes to beat Coric, now world No. 19, who reached the final after beating the defending champion, Roger Federer of Switzerland, who in turn will fall to world No. 3 when the ATP rankings are released on Monday.

Coric, who knocked out Juan Martin del Potro and Roger Federer en route to his first ATP Masters series final, matched Djokovic in the early exchanges as the two players traded blow-for-blow on serve.

The Serb, who had elbow surgery in February but recovered to win Wimbledon and then the US Open last month, will be up to second in the world when the new rankings are released on Monday, but will be aiming to usurp Rafael Nadal's No 1 spot before the year is out.

The 21-year-old saved three match points to hold serve in the ninth game before Djokovic served out to clinch his fourth title of the season.

Victory means Djokovic's winning streak now stands at 18 matches as he closes to just 35 points behind world leader Nadal in the race to be No. 1 after the season-ending ATP Finals in London. Now back to winning form, Djokovic has not lost a match since Toronto in August and lifted four trophies at Wimbledon, Cincinnati, the US Open and now in Shanghai.

Djokovic said he felt that the Chinese fans were really behind him and he always liked to come back to Shanghai for this reason. The last four months had been "fantastic" and "tremendous", he said. This pattern continued to the semifinals, in which a single break in both sets gave Coric victory over Federer and Djokovic dispatched Alexander Zverev in under one hour. Meanwhile, Australia's Matthew Ebden jumped 11 positions up to the 40th, after reaching the quarterfinals of the Asian tournament. Not many holes in the game in general, especially this week.

"It's phenomenal. I'm very proud of it", Djokovic said.

"I'm just happy with the whole week". After his triumph at the Rolex Shanghai Masters, Djokovic said: 'I can not have asked for a better scenario.

"I thought he was better, I think he had more punch on the ball".

"It was a ideal week; I don't have anything negative to say about the game".
