Melania Trump's Plane Suffers Mechanical Failure, Returns to Andrews Air Force Base

USA first lady Melania Trump's airplane returned to Joint Base Andrews in Maryland after experiencing a "mechanical issue" on Wednesday, according to a CNN report.

A few minutes after takeoff, those aboard the plane observed a thin haze of smoke coming from the cabin and smelled something burning.

The first lady landed safely back at the base at around 9am local time (2pm BST).

A CNN reporter aboard the flight says Secret Service handed the press corps wet towels to put over their faces to deal with the smell of smoke.

‘Grimm’ Spinoff in Development at NBC
According to Deadline , NBC is now developing a Grimm reboot just one year after the original show went off the air. The dust has barely settled in the Spice Shop, but things are starting to look rather Grimm at NBC again.

One of the crew members told NBC News that a communications unit on the plane overheated, but the White House has not immediately confirmed that report.

She was on her way from Washington to Philadelphia when there was "a minor mechanical issue", according to her spokeswoman Stephanie Grisham.

Mrs Trump recently made her first major solo trip overseas to Ghana, Malawi, Kenya and Egypt.

Mrs Trump had been due to visit Philly's Jefferson Hospital to meet babies born addicted to opioids. The first lady boarded a separate smaller aircraft soon afterwards and continued forward with her trip.
