Alibaba Chairman Jack Ma said the China-based e-commerce giant no longer plans to create one million jobs in the United States, blaming the US-China trade conflict, according to a report.

For years, Ma has been pushing his vision of usa small businesses selling to Chinese shoppers through his online marketplaces, but many experts have criticized his plan.

Separately, Ma had warned China's business and political leaders that the trade war between China and the US could last 20 years, longer than Mr. Trump's presidency, according to Bloomberg News.

"Trade is not a weapon and can not be used for wars", he added, in an exclusive with Xinhua news agency.

China responded a day later with tariffs on about $60-billion worth of US goods as planned, but reduced the level of tariffs it will collect on the products. "Trade should be the propeller of peace".

Even so, it is known that the Alibaba shares have been declining steadily through the year.

The problem comes just months after a prolonged period of IT troubles left TSB customers locked out of their bank accounts. Customers were told: "You should still be able still make payments to existing payees through mobile banking".

Mr Ma pointed to business opportunities in other regions such as Europe, South America, Russia and Africa, Xinhua said.

Ma, China's richest man, made the remarks in an interview in the state-owned Xinhua news service, saying the pledge made to President Donald Trump is no longer feasible because of the unstable trade situation. When commenting about his coming retirement, Ma says he has been prepared for it for over 10 years. The 10 percent tariff is to be implemented by September 24, which will increase to 25 percent by the end of the year.

"I believe it will be a time of progress for both the company and myself", Ma said on Tuesday.

Alibaba Cloud's City Brain solution has been piloted at the company's headquarters in Hangzhou, capital of Zhejiang province, since 2017, using artificial intelligence (AI) technology in urban management.

"The theme of our annual event "Computing Conference 2018" is "Empower Digital China", and showcase latest technology to over 60,000 participants from across the country", said Alibaba in a statement from Hangzhou, 180 km southwest of Shanghai.
