Marvel's Eternals Movie Just Took A Big Step Forward

The Rider helmer Chloe Zhao is attached to helm Marvel's Jack Kirby-created The Eternals, Deadline has confirmed.

Recently, Marvel killed off the Eternals in Jason Aaron's Avengers comic. Marvel chief Kevin Feige produces from a script penned by Matthew and Ryan Firpo.

Via The Hollywood Reporter, Zhao will be only the second woman to direct a Marvel Studios film by herself. But that is probably not going to last, because the Eternals are heading to the big screen.

Kris Reveals She Helped Deliver Baby Stormi and Kim Is Grossed Out
We can't say we're surprised by this because Kylie looks like she's been handling parenthood easily right from the start. But Kris Jenner provided much more than just emotional support for her daughter Kylie Jenner .

Best known for directing The Rider and Songs My Brother Taught Me, Chloe Zhao was previously in the running to direct the Black Widow movie. The Celestials experimented on humans creating both races of immortal spin-offs.

Created by Kirby in 1976, The Eternals are characters inspired by Erich von Däniken's Chariots of the Gods, which explored ancient gods as aliens. Just look what happened to ABC's The Inhumans, which failed spectacularly at bringing complex cosmic characters to life. That film's sequel, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, expanded the lore further with the introduction of Ego the Living Planet (Kurt Russell), father of Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), who was an immensely powerful Celestial. Within the Marvel Universe, Sersi had a long stint as an Avenger during the '90s. As for the Deviants, Thanos is a member of that race in the comics.

It's likely that Zhao will follow the footsteps of other relatively unknown directors tapped by Marvel, like Spider-Man: Homecoming Jon Watts who helmed the Sundance favorite Cop Car, and deliver a fantastic adaptation of The Eternals.
