Alzheimer's Walk raises funds to benefit research, increase awareness

Walkers getting ready for the Walk to End Alzheimer's, which will be held September 22 at Kit Carson Park.

"As the prevalence of this disease continues to grow, the cost of care is escalating into the hundreds of billions", stated event emcee DeWayne Williams. "We are so grateful to the community for coming out to support our vision of a world without Alzheimer's disease. Let's work hard to end it together".

"It's actually slightly different than in years past", she said. According to the organization, the Twin Cities chapter is the No. 1 Walk to End Alzheimer's in the country. Registration will begin at 9 a.m., followed by a Promise Garden ceremony at 10 a.m.to honor those who have been affected by Alzheimer's.

"We highly encourage everyone who would like to participate to register online", Huckabaa said. "We want to continue to get more people involved, so we can work to find a cure. We're moving in the right direction". In the United States, more than 5 million Americans are living with Alzheimer's disease, the sixth-leading cause of death in and the only disease among the top 10 causes that can not be cured, prevented or even slowed.
