US Border Patrol agent suspected of killing 4 women

The district attorney's office intends to charge Ortiz with four counts of murder and one count of aggravated kidnapping.

The 35-year-old suspect, an intel supervisor for the Border Patrol, was found hiding a auto park in Laredo, Texas, at around 2am after he initially fled police on Saturday.

"We do consider this to be a serial killer", said Webb County District Attorney Isidro Alaniz. Authorities are still trying to determine a motive for the killings.

He said that authorities believe Ortiz had killed all four women since September 3.

A fifth person, a female who was the victim in the alleged kidnapping, was able to escape and contacted authorities, providing a description of the suspect - including a vehicle, a white Dodge truck, authorities said.

A US Border Patrol agent in Texas described by authorities as a "serial killer" has been arrested for the murders four prostitutes and the abduction of a fifth, who managed to escape him and notify authorities. We have advocated for and implemented new standards during the hiring process as well as new standards of professionalism after joining Border Patrol.

The sheriff said that Ortiz was a 10-year veteran supervisor with Border Patrol, local NBC/ABC affiliate KGNS reported. We also spoke about hiring more Professional Responsibility officers so that they can police their own.

The commissioner assured me that we will continue to work together to address these issues.

The sheriff added that the suspect, who has worked for Border Patrol for a decade, would be charged later on Saturday. Police say all four women were prostitutes.

"Out of respect for the victims' family and friends, we ask that deference and due process be given to the investigation so that all the facts are brought to light and they can receive the closure they deserve".
