Man drives car into crowd in southern France, wounding two

According to police, on Friday, the 32-year-old man sent his auto to the visitors of a local bar who were on the sidewalk in front of the school.

An investigation has been opened into attempted murder.

A white Peugeot crashed into a security barrier set up for a popular bullfighting festival around 1am Friday (11pm GMT Thursday), according to AFP.

Witness reports state the man shouted the religious phrase during the incident.

The man was arrested after the incident at around 1:30 a.m. Friday. As a result of hitting two people received minor injuries. They were taken to hospital in a stable condition.

Presenter Rylan Clark-Neal, who hosts spin-off show Bit On The Side , said he was "saddened" the show would not be returning. But the excitement comes with really a lot of sadness as we all found out today that Big Brother is no more on Channel 5 .

The 36-year-old driver, known to police services for previous petty crimes, suffered "mental confusion" when he was arrested.

A police spokesman declined to comment on the man's motives, but said the investigation was being handled by regular police rather than anti-terror police.

France is in high alert for vehicle terrorism after several attacks in recent years.

More than 240 people have been killed by Islamist extremists since a massacre at the Charlie Hebdo satirical magazine in Paris in January 2015.

Security has been stepped up at festivals around the country including Nimes.
