US teenager Tyler Adams takes down Mexico in friendly match

The 19-year-old New York Red Bulls midfielder scored his first senior worldwide goal in the second half to give the USMNT a 1-0 victory over Mexico.

Minutes later, Adams would find the breakthrough that proved the difference in the victory.

"This kid's a beast", Sarachan said. "Not ideal but he's shown that he's emerging as someone that other players can look up to".

Chelsea and American defender Matt Miazga, who is now on loan at Nantes stirred up tensions by mocking the height of Mexican Diego Lainez during the friendly match.

Mexico's Angel Zaldivar was shown a straight red card for a unsafe tackle on Wil Trapp in the 67th minute and four minutes later the home side got the victor, Adams taking advantage of poor positioning by the Mexican defence to slot home from 12 meters out.

6ft 4in Miazga embarrassed 5ft 6in 18-year-old Mexican on the pitch before both sets of players waded in to defend their team-mates during the clash.

"We knew that at some point in the game it might boil over", Sarachan said.

Crew goalkeeper Zack Steffen had all three of his saves in the first half when Mexico carried the play.

usa forward Gyasi Zardes had headed over from Weston McKennie's cross early in the first half but Mexico were in control for long periods afterwards.

It was the culmination of a sudden sea change of action that started a few minutes earlier in the second half.

The 21-year-old, who was signed by Premier League side Everton from Watford earlier this year for $52 million, produced two excellent strikes on 16 and 50 minutes to reward the faith shown in him by manager Tite.

The Americans took advantage four minutes later.

Sarachan, who has served as interim United States of America coach for almost a year following the departure of Bruce Arena after last year's failure to qualify for the World Cup, made six changes from the team outclassed by Brazil last Friday. This was a display which would have encouraged them immensely.

The game later ended 1 - 0 in favour of US against Mexico.
