Student killed in twin bomb attack near Afghan girls school

Provincial governor's spokesman said at least five people were killed and more than 30 others were wounded in the explosion.

The bombs were reportedly hidden inside the schools as part of the planned attack.

The militants have answered by conducting assaults in city amenities and against lightly defended targets.The assaults on Tuesday brought to six the assortment of colleges attacked within the province in contemporary months.

"We have counted 15 dead bodies laying on the ground after a suicide bomber blew himself up among protestors on Jalalabad-Torkham road in Nangarhar province", the eyewitness told Xinhua but refused to be identified. The Taliban quickly denounced the incident and denied involvement.

Several blasts were reported, with the deadliest involving a suicide bomber detonating in the crowd of people.

A delegation from Kabul is heading to the province to probe the attack with a focus on its motive and if there is a connection to the local police commander Bilal Shah, a provincial official said by phone on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the situation.

There were no reports of U.S. strikes in Sar-e Pul on Tuesday but there were three strikes on Monday, a spokesman for U.S. forces in Afghanistan said in an emailed statement. That bombing was claimed by the Taliban.
