Hurricane Florence Makes Landfall in US

NOAA's latest report on Hurricane Florence places the centre of the weather system about 20 miles southwest of Wilmington, North Carolina and 55 miles east of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Hurricane Florence is bearing down on the US East Coast as a Category 2 hurricane with winds up to 110mph - slower than yesterday but covering a wider area.

National Weather Service forecaster Brandon Locklear predicted Florence would drop up to eight months of rain in two or three days.

"Hurricane Florence is looking even bigger than anticipated".

Florence is moving at 9 kilometers per hour - giving it more time to churn, suck up water, batter the coast, and bring massive amounts of rain inland. "We are stuck in the attic".

Their entire neighbourhood evacuated in Wilmington, North Carolina, David and Janelle Garrigus planned to ride out Florence at their daughter's one-bedroom apartment in Charlotte. It is expected that the hurricane moves on or near the coastline during the night of Thursday through Friday.

An intense wave, as well as heavy rains, will announce on Thursday on the coast of Las Carolinas, the arrival of Florence.

A hurricane warning is in effect for South Santee River, SC, north to Duck, NC, and the Albemarle and Pamlico Sounds.

OnePlus co-founder confirms the OnePlus 6T will lose the headphone jack
This was prior to the release of the Bullets Wireless headphones, Oneplus' first attempt at a personal Bluetooth audio solution. However, nearly two years later, the company has now announced a new pair of wired earphones, dubbed OnePlus Type-C Bullets.

Rescue helicopters and trucks that can navigate floodwaters are also standing by.

It is unclear exactly how many people fled, but more than 1.7 million people in the Carolinas and Virginia were warned to clear out.

"The state is mobilizing all available resources to ensure public safety ahead of Hurricane Florence", said Deal. It could go out for a number of days, it could go out for weeks.

But the warnings have not been enough to deter all of those living in the area, with some residents telling Al Jazeera that they planned to stock up of supplies and "wait it out".

The police chief of a barrier island in Florence's bulls'-eye said he was asking for next-of-kin contact information from the few residents who refused to leave.

As Florence drew near, President Donald Trump tweeted that FEMA and first responders are "supplied and ready", and he disputed the official conclusion that almost 3,000 people died in Puerto Rico, claiming the figure was a Democratic plot to make him look bad. On Friday, he applauded the efforts of emergency responders.

Although slow weakening is expected to begin by late Thursday, Florence is still forecast to be an extremely unsafe major hurricane when it nears the USA coast late Thursday and Friday, the NHC added.
