Flight carrying Kulsoom Nawazs body departs for Pakistan

The flight landed at the Allama Iqbal International Airport here around 6:45 a.M (local time).

Kulsoom, 68, wife of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, breathed her last on Tuesday at London's Harley Street Clinic after a prolonged illness, where She remained under treatment since June 2017, and was placed on life support last night after her health deteriorated. The family is now meeting people in Jati Umra, who have come to pay homage to Begum Kulsoom.

MMA Chief Maulana Fazl ur Rehman also reached Jati Umra to offer condolences to Nawaz Sharif on the death of his wife.

Hassan and Hussain Nawaz, Begum Kulsoom's sons, did not return to Pakistan for their mother's funeral. They have also received the "out-of-England" letter from the coroner's court, paving the way for the departure of her body for Lahore on Thursday evening.

The funeral prayers were attended by her sons Hassan and Hussain, brother-in-law Shehbaz Sharif, former ministers Chaudhry Nisar and Ishaq Dar among others.

People continued to arrive at Jati Umra to express grief and offer sympathy to the Sharif family.

Earlier, Prime Minister Imran Khan had ordered to facilitate the Sharif family regarding the bringing back the body of Kulsoom and matters related to their parole. The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and Pakistan Peoples Party's delegations will attend the funeral prayers, Geo News reported.

Begum Kulsoom Nawaz's funeral prayers would be held at 5:00pm on today ( Friday) at the Sharif Medical City, Jati Umra.

According to the Punjab province Home Department spokesperson, it has been decided that Nawaz, Maryam and Safdar's parole be extended by three days.

The home department said the period of parole has been extended until 12 am on Monday.

Kulsoom Nawaz died on September 11, 2018, at a hospital in London.

The three-time Premier, his daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law Mohammad Safdar, now serving prison terms on corruption charges, were granted parole by the Punjab government to attend Begum Kulsoom's funeral.
