A landslide over the iconic Navagio beach on Zakynthos island has reportedly injured three people.

Their injuries were not life-threatening, fire brigade and coast guard officials said.

There were no people missing, one of the officials said but authorities were combing land and sea as a precaution, the official said. The fire department said it had sent 18 rescuers accompanied by a sniffer dog, while a further nine-person crew was heading to the site by helicopter. The spot is popular with tourists and locals, who get to the cove either on small tourist or private boats.

Footage posted on social media showed people running in panic as a large section of the cliff peeled off and crashed down close to several bathers.

Initial reports said three boats were overturned when the slide caused powerful waves.

It is one of the Ionian island's main attractions, in part because of the shipwreck on the shore and also because of its surrounding steep cliffs.

Another six people, including two children, had received treatment for minor injuries, a hospital official in Zakynthos told Reuters.
