Salah shortlisted for UEFA Men's Player of the Year

Juventus and Portugal worldwide Cristiano Ronaldo has made the final three man shortlist of players that will fight for the 2017/18 UEFA player of the year award.

All three players competed in the Champions League final in Kiev, which saw Ronaldo and Modric both emerge victorious with Real.

Luka Modrič was an inspirational figure for Croatia during this summer's World Cup, guiding them to an unlikely final berth and winning the tournament's golden ball in the process.

The midfielder has been the subject of transfer speculation recently, with Inter Milan said to be interested in his services.

For the men's award, the shortlist of three players was selected by a jury composed of 80 coaches of the clubs which participated in the group stages of the 2017/18 UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League, together with 55 journalists selected by the European Sports Media (ESM) group, representing each of UEFA's member associations.

There are some noticeable absentees from the nomination list, with Lionel Messi the obvious name.

The 2016-17 men's award was won by Ronaldo, who finished ahead of Messi and Gianluigi Buffon.

The shortlist was chosen by votes cast by the 80 coaches who took part in European competition last season and 55 sports journalists, with the victor to be announced at the Champions League 2018-19 draw in Nyon.

The remainder of the players making up the top 10 in the voting were: Antoine Griezmann, Leo Messi, Kylian Mbappé, Kevin De Bruyne, Raphaël Varane, Eden Hazard and Sergio Ramos.
