Everton's row with Watford increased Richarlison price - Brands

According to the Guardian, Brands, who saw off both United and Lyon in order to capture the Colombian star, claims that Everton merely paid what they had offered at the start of negotiations to sign the centre back.

Asked why the deals took a while to complete, Brands said: "That was mainly because of Mina of course, because there were a lot of rumours also about other clubs in the Premier League - so Barcelona waited".

"That was a great thing for us but you never know if Man United comes in and offers an extra £150,000 a week - every player would like to do that".

"That was a bit of gamble because everyone was writing about Man United and Barcelona used that, agents used that, everyone used it".

Contrary to suggestions in the media, however, Brands insists that Mina was Everton's top defensive target and the 23-year-old only ever had eyes on Goodison Park.

"I was watching England versus Colombia in the house of Farhad with the chairman and Marco and I said: 'S***, he's scored'". They said to me: "Man Utd are coming in".

"In the end it went the right direction, but I was a little bit unsure what would happen in the last days".

The third test could be the decider for India as this could be the last chance for the guests to get back to winning ways. Despite helping India to a good positon, both Rahane and Kohli would have frustrated not to convert to three figures.

'But after the weekend before the market closed, I had a confident feeling about it'. "At first they were not so happy with that but in the end they came back and said maybe it could be an option".

Everton's Richarlison celebrates scoring their second goal.

Given the animosity between the clubs following Everton's initial approach last November for Silva, who was then Watford's manager, Brands admitted he was forced to pay a premium for the Brazilian forward. What we can know for sure, however, is that these dirty tactics - of fabricating interest from big clubs to force genuinely interested parties to pay more, precluding them from conducting the deal on their own terms any longer - have been employed as an nearly sacred tradition in transfer windows.

"Because that makes it more hard for us and especially as it came against England, so that was double s***".

'We have improved the squad.

Everton striker Nikola Vlasic agreed yesterday to join CSKA Moscow on loan for the season and Brands expects Cuco Martina, Muhamed Besic and Yannick Bolasie to leave before the European deadline on August 31.
