Pogba tight-lipped over United situation for fear of being fined

Pogba, who was given the captaincy by Mourinho on Friday, summed up what it meant for him to be happy and comfortable. "I came in the academy, I grew up, I played for the first team".

Asked about Pogba after Barcelona's 2-1 Super Cup win against Sevilla, President Josep Maria Bartomeu said: "I won't speak of any names, we have respect for all clubs and there are 20 days left".

The France star was named skipper for his side's 2-1 victory over Leicester City on Saturday (AEST) and delivered a commanding performance, which included a goal from the penalty spot.

But in the grand scheme of things, is he happy at Old Trafford?

The World Cup victor has endured a strained relationship with manager Jose Mourinho in the two years since his return to Old Trafford.

Liverpool's Danny Ings joins Southampton on loan
Southampton saw off "significant competition" from Ings and manager Mark Hughes was delighted to secure his signature. So we say farewell to a friend, but for Danny I know the best chapters in his personal story are still to be written.

Interestingly, club boss Mourinho has refused to applaud him after winning the World Cup in Russian Federation, preferring to demand from him not lose focus when it comes to club duties. "For us it will be a hard season because I had my plans, and I had my plans for many months, and I started the Premier League season without a situation I thought".

"They look up to me is what he said".

Pogba is the crown jewel at Manchester United - he spent his summer becoming a World Cup victor and remains the biggest asset in Mourinho's arsenal. Or you believe in the pundits and go with what they say.

"As a player, it all boils down to whether or not you are enjoying your football and your experience - your enjoyment is one of the reasons you play well".

Prior to the transfer window slamming shut on Thursday evening, there had been a few weeks of speculation that Pogba even wanted to leave Old Trafford for a second time, with his agent Mino Raiola seemingly trying to negotiate a £100m move to Spanish giants Barcelona. Here's an excerpt of the report:Manchester United have started preliminary work in their search for a new director of football, and began sounding out potential candidates and expertise, in what is set to be a rigorous search for what is seen as one of the most important appointments in the club's history. For me, it was a dream come true.
