Mourinho 'angry and frustrated' after Man Utd centre-half signing flop

Juan Mata has scored 4 goals in his last 4 Premier League matches against Leicester City, with Norwich being the only team against whom Mata has scored more.

It is for these reasons that Mourinho was understandably frustrated by the club not bringing in any new central defenders during the summer transfer window. But Mourinho now says he is focusing on the players already at his disposal.

Yerry Mina, Toby Alderweireld, and Harry Maguire were all linked with a move to Old Trafford, but nothing marterialised, with the fees being way too high.

The Ivorian global was signed by Mourinho for £30m in 2016 and fans consider him to be the best centre-back at the club.

Consistent reports have insisted the 55-year-old has been left unimpressed with the lack of transfer activity during the latter stages of the recently closed window - with chief executive Ed Woodward shouldering a significant portion of the blame for the Red Devils' somewhat quiet spell in the market following the conclusion of the World Cup.

Leicester City reportedly wanted close to £75m and, despite Mourinho's protests, the Man United chiefs elected to pass.

Three early points and a flawless start to the season.

Manchester United's Jose Mourinho not confident of new signings before deadline
Asked whether he he believed there would be any movement in or out of Old Trafford on deadline day, Mourinho replied: "The information I have is no".

Mourinho splashed out £89m in 2016 to make the Frenchman United's club-record signing.

"United is a big team". Marcos Rojo - he was injured in the World Cup.

After a brilliant World Cup, Perisic is now worth nearly double that figure. If he joined, it's unlikely that Alexis Sanchez would've arrived in January.

Chelsea shattered the world-record fee for a goalkeeper with an 80-million euro (US$92 million) swoop for Athletic Bilbao's Kepa Arrizabalaga on Wednesday to replace Belgian global Thibaut Courtois, who has joined European champion Real Madrid.

At the end of the month the Portuguese was speaking with confidence about getting at least one more signing in but those hopes began to fade and the deadline passed without an acquisition as Mourinho predicted.

The 2018/19 English Premier League will kick-off tonight with 20-time English Premier League winners Manchester United facing 2015 Premier League winners Leicester City in the Theatre of Dreams in Manchester.

The 25-year-old striker looks set to lead the line for years to come.
