Jose Mourinho: Man Utd boss 'not confident' of deadline day signing

Jose Mourinho: Man Utd boss 'not confident' of deadline day signing

I've spoken to Pep twice on Sky since the end of the season, we did a programme the other day with Dave Jones and Jamie Carragher asking questions.

Determined to build on a fine season that saw his team finish as Champions League runners-up and take fourth place in the Premier League, Reds boss Jurgen Klopp embarked on a £160-million spending spree.

"The list that I gave you before of the injured players is an important list and today after training I will speak with that group [of World Cup players] because everybody is different physically and mentally to see how they feel, how they are and to understand if they think how they can help or not help".

The former Arsenal and England striker believes the Reds' summer transfer business can catapult them above Pep Guardiola's record-breaking champions. "They trained Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and today, so you can imagine they are not really fit and ready".

Mourinho also suggested he had not been given enough credit for guiding United to a runners-up finish in the Premier League last season, as he again suggested the negativity around the club was misplaced.

"They seem so intent and we spoke to Kompany and Walker, they seem so intent to not drop below the mentality and standards they achieved a year ago". The challenge for them is can they repeat that level of energy and that level of focus every three days?

'In fact I'm going to stick my neck out and suggest that by May the title will be back on Merseyside for the first time in 29 years'.

Saudi Arabia market closure adds to growers' woes
Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland said Monday she "looks forward" to hearing from Riyadh about the future of the deal. Badawi was arrested at the end of July along with fellow Saudi women's rights activist Nassima al Sada.

'I said during pre-season - it looked like I was saying something absolutely out of order, something insane - but I repeat: pre-season is hard when you don't have your players to work, it's as simple as that'.

"United should be challenging", insisted Neville.

United should be challenging.

Sources told ESPN FC on Wednesday that while United were still pursuing a centre-back, but the chase has become problematic during the final hours of the window. A club that's spent the money they've spent in the past few seasons and the players they've got [should be challenging]. That's an obscene amount of talent.

'We all know they needed a goalkeeper and they've got one of the best in Brazilian Alisson, while Virgil van Dijk now has his feet under the table as the team's defensive leader.

Gary Neville was speaking to promote Cadbury as the official snack partner of the Premier League.
