Australia's Minister for Home Affairs Peter Dutton was on the 12th floor of a Lombok hotel at the time of the quake. Thousands of homes and buildings were damaged and those displaced camped wherever they could - in sports fields and on roadsides, cobbling together ramshackle shelters and building campfires for warmth.

The natural disaster, initially reported to be of 7.0-magnitude before the U.S. Geological Service downgraded it to a 6.9, struck the island of Lombok-a popular spot with tourists-where last week's quake also hit.

"People were just throwing their suitcases on board and I had to struggle to get my husband on, because he was bleeding", she said.

In a Facebook update on Monday, Mr Shanmugam said that the delegation was only able to grab the most essential items from their hotel rooms before evacuating.

The global airport of Bali suffered damage to its terminal but the runway was still unaffected and other operations had returned to normal, as reported by disaster agency officials.

Al Jazeera's Step Vaessen, reporting from Bangsal in northern Lombok, said the military was helping to evacuate tourists but many were left stranded in Bangsal. He says the quake "was powerful enough to put us on the floor" and cut power.

The Indonesia Red Cross reported that four of its volunteers were injured and transported to a hospital.

Hundreds of tourists were evacuated from Mt Rinjani, Indonesia's second highest volcano, after the July 29 natural disaster.

She live tweeted the quake to her 10.6m followers.

The Indonesian archipelago, where Lombok and Bali are located, is part of the Pacific Ring of Fire, a 40,000-kilometer (25,000-mile) area of intense seismic and volcanic activity where most of the world's earthquakes occur.

Teigen then confirmed that aftershocks from the quake had started to hit the area.

About 1,000 foreign and domestic tourists were evacuated in boats from the three Gili islands off the northwest coast of Lombok, BNPB spokesman Nugroho said via Twitter.

The pressure that caused the Lombok quake was created by the Australian plate pushing northwards into the Indonesian plate.

At least 91 people were killed and neighbouring Bali was shaken in the tremor with the death toll is expected to rise.

Najmul Akhyar, district chief of North Lombok, told MetroTV that there was an electrical blackout so he was unable to assess the entire situation, but that at least three people had been killed. The warning was lifted on Sunday after only small waves were recorded.

The natural disaster hit a week after a magnitude-6.4 temblor killed 17 people, injured more than 160, and caused widespread damage to buildings.

Indonesian authorities have lifted a tsunami warning that was issued after a strong quake struck the popular tourist island of Lombok.

Indonesia's disaster mitigation agency said the quake, which struck at a depth of 15km, has prompted a tsunami warning.

A magnitude 7.0 natural disaster struck off the north coast of Indonesia's island of Lombok on Sunday, according to the US Geological Survey.

It struck at a depth of just six miles (10.5km) and its epicentre was about a mile east of Loloan.

Flights at the Bali and Lombok airports were continuing.

Hotels and other buildings in both locations are not allowed to exceed the height of coconut trees.
