Marvel Studios has honed itself into a movie-making machine in the past decade, and a month without a director or writer is lost time and money for the company. With Gunn having made the offensive tweets prior to his involvement with the studio, he's not in breach of contract, with it potentially being more financially prudent for Disney to use Gunn's script.

It was reported recently that Dave Bautista was displeased with the firing by Disney of Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn.

The "cybernazis" Bautista refers to include alt-right media personality Mike Cernovich, who dug up Gunn's tweets with the goal of getting him fired, which is a pattern with this guy.

The Hollywood Reporter claims that multiple sources confirmed with them that talks are still taking place between Gunn and Marvel Studios, potentially to develop an entirely different MCU property.

James Gunn, the writer and director for Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy movies, was sacked by Disney last month when his offensive, years-old Twitter posts were recirculated. Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket, Groot, Nebula and Mantis wouldn't be who they are on the big screen without Gunn's particular sensibilities and style, and it's in Disney's best interest to have the next film maintain the tonal continuity - even if another filmmaker is brought on-board to execute it (admittedly a pretty thankless job). The third Guardians film was meant to be the final outing for the original team lineup, and set up future films in the cosmic arena of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Right now, Gunn's exit is being negotiated by his talent agency UTA and his attorney Andrew Hurwitz. One of the rumored studios is Warner Bros., which could result in Gunn joining the DC Extended Universe in some capacity. "An end-all verdict hasn't been issued and conversations with Marvel are still ongoing", a source told THR. But one thing's for certain: Gunn won't be out of work long.
