Ford celebrates production of 10 millionth Mustang

Ford has now made an astonishing 10 million Mustangs, and the company just revealed the 10 millionth example of the sports auto at a big bash in MI. And now, the Ford Mustang, an automotive icon, is about to reach a milestone no other muscle vehicle, or no other performance auto for that matter has ever reached - 10 million units!

During its 54-year production run the Mustang has been built in San Jose, California, Metuchen, New Jersey, and Dearborn, Michigan. There's good reason for the specifications, too.

Sixty Mustangs helped create the figure.

The 10 millionth Mustang is a GT convertible model finished in Wimbledon White to honor the first serialized 1964 1/2 Mustang.

The automaker marked the occasion with a gathering of some 60 Mustang owners, who parked their new and classic pony cars to spell out '10,000,000.' A trio of P-51 Mustang fighter aircraft were prepared for a fly-by over the site as well.

"Mustang is the heart and soul of this company and a favourite around the world", said Jim Farley, president of global markets at Ford. "Mustang is a smile-maker in any language". The automaker has gathered one Mustang from every model year, and they're parading from Ford's headquarters in Dearborn to the Flat Rock Assembly Plant where the Mustang is now built. There's an exclusive 480bhp 5.0-litre V8 engine under the bonnet, plus distinctive design and trim tailored as a throwback to Steve McQueen's vehicle from the 1968 film.

Now in its sixth generation, the Mustang received a mid-life facelift in 2017. The Mustang is a hugely important auto for Ford and is one of only two Ford cars that are continuing production.

But don't go looking for the 10 millionth in showrooms.

They are also set to make a late move to sign Barcelona's outcast midfielder Andre Gomes. "The door's open for him to come". He has played 14 times for Brazil and started the 7-1 defeat by Germany in the 2014 World Cup semi-finals.
