Aston Villa prepared to fight Tottenham for star

Chelsea are reportedly hoping to sign Aston Villa youngster Jack Grealish ahead of arch-rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

Spurs, though, are yet to meet Villa's valuation, with the Midlands club's financial strains eased by the arrival of fresh investment in July.

The Villa manager, emboldened by an injection of cash from the club's new majority shareholders, says they are no longer under pressure to sell their "best player" and that Spurs must pay a premium to land Grealish.

The duo have in turn assured boss Steve Bruce, whose own future had previously been the subject of widespread speculation, that he does not have to part ways with any of his most prized players, including England U21 starlet Grealish.

"We don't want to lose our best players, but they're aware of course is that everyone has their price". The one thing that the owners have made pretty clear is no one is for sale.

"We all know what football is, but at the moment Spurs haven't got anywhere near what the owners want to consider - so there's not a discussion to be had at the moment, because they've not got anywhere near the figure they demand".

Bookmakers still believe Spurs are favourites, but there has also been interest in Chelsea.

It's claimed that Chelsea are set to launch a £20M move to sign Grealish from Villa.

The 22-year-old is an attacking midfielder who has become a key player for Championship side Villa, but that has seen Premier League clubs circle for him.
