Allegheny County Health Department to treat for mosquitoes


According to test results received by the health unit on Tuesday, mosquitoes collected from a trap located in Wyoming on August 1 tested positive for the virus.

According to the Central Connecticut Health District, the mosquitoes that tested positive for the virus are in the Culex family.

The first West Nile virus-related death of the year in Dallas County has been reported, the county health department confirmed to WFAA on Tuesday. They can be infected when they feed on the blood of infected birds.

The product used will be a mosquito pesticide called Zenivex E20, which kills adult mosquitoes, but is not harmful to people and pets.

Dallas County Health and Human Services said the victim lived in the 75229 ZIP code in northwest Dallas and had West Nile neuroinvasive disease.

Wear long, loose and light-colored clothing. Mosquitoes only need a few tablespoons of water to lay eggs.

There have been three human cases of West Nile virus in the county this year.

Use effective insect repellent such as DEET or Picaridin. Of the 26 Dallas County residents infected past year, two died from the mosquito-borne illness.
