PM Modi slams Congress over lack of electrification

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has declined a request from the Muslim Lawyers Association (MLA) to arrest and prosecute Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi when he visits South Africa for the Brics summit this month.

"In 2005, the then Congress government promised to electrify every village by 2009". The PM expressed happiness and extended his wishes to the villagers who were elated after benefitting from the rural electrification scheme.

The Government not only focused on electrification, but also reformed the distribution systems across the country, Prime Minister added. Modi was interacting with the beneficiaries of the scheme at NIA centre in Jaisalmer through video conferencing.

He said that it was "unfortunate" that over 18,000 villages in the country were not electrified in last 70 years.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the programme, which was announced in September 2017, is now in "mission mode" and seeks to connect around 40 million households.

On a number of occasions, Congress president Rahul Gandhi, veteran party leader Sonia Gandhi and other big shots in the opposition had on many instances criticised PM Modi of being too much out of the country. Needless to say, none of that happened during their tenure.

American flag burned outside L.A. offices of congresswoman Maxine Waters
Waters, the Golden State Democrat, had previously urged her supporters to stay away from the Oath Keepers' demonstration . When the day arrived, however, the Los Angeles Times noted that the Oath Keepers were nowhere to be found.

Modi alleged that the previous governments did not pay attention to the development of the eastern parts of India.

PM Modi interacted with people from villages across India that have been electrified in the last four years.

During the interaction, people from Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh told the PM the different ways in which having electricity has been positive for them. This changed her life forever.

It is noted that There are around 4 crore un-electrified households in the nation which are targeted for giving electricity connections by December 2018. However, the government is aiming to energise all these families by 31 December, 2018, under Saubhagya.

The Saubhagya scheme was introduced while aiming to electrify about 3.6 crore unelectrified households by 31 March, 2019.
