Father of Florida school shooting survivors killed during robbery

The city's Bangladeshi community is giving support to the father of four's widow and children.

According to the Broward County Sheriff's Office, deputies and paramedics found the injured 61-year-old when they arrived at his store, Aunt Molly's Food Store, in North Lauderdale.

Ayub Ali, the father of two Parkland, Florida mass murder survivors, was fatally shot during an armed robbery and died on Tuesday.

The sheriff's office said in a statement that Ali was forced to the back of the store and shot by the suspect.

At one point, Ali is seen putting his hands up, appearing not to put up any fight.

Deputies said a robber held up Ali at gunpoint and took money from the cash register before leaving.

"The robbery guy took the money and took him over there to the small room - the office room - and shot him over there", Ali's co-worker and friend, Kazi Hayter, said.

Ali was transported to Fort Lauderdale's Broward Health Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Nieves says it was just a week ago that he told Ali to be careful when working by himself at the store, saying not to trust anyone.

Ali's loved ones and neighbors are all on high alert.

"He deserves to get whatever he gets, I don't care what he is, Puerto Rican, Cuban, Dominican, Haitian, I don't care, he needs to go to jail", Nieves said of the gunman.

Anyone with information is urged to contact BSO homicide detective James Hayes at 954-321-4231 or Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.

Although police said there was no suggestion that the couple had been deliberately targeted, a murder investigation was launched. However, investigators have not been able to confirm that it was from the same batch used to poison the Skripals.
