The NFL Supplemental Draft, explained

This year, five such players have entered their names, and according to several draft analysts, the chance of someone being selected for the first time since 2015 is good. If a team did, and was awarded the player, that team would surrender that round's pick in the 2019 regular draft.

Browns fans are more familiar with this process than most teams.

The supplemental draft is for players who didn't enter the "normal" draft but still want to play in the National Football League that coming season (2018 in this case). Although he has average speed, he is very aggressive and can take receivers out of the play if he gets the upper hand early.

Few players qualify for the supplemental draft. They were absolutely the best on the board when they were picked. They have emphasized the prospects that they have scouted in the NFL Draft. For Ugwoegbu, NFL teams have no desire to draft a 205-pound LB who ran a 4.97 40-yard dash at his pro day. He entered the supplemental draft after being ruled academically ineligible for what would have been his senior season.

Any team that's evaluating Beal has to ask themselves and perhaps bring it up to him that if he's unable or unwilling to take on MAC running backs, how is that situation going to improve against someone like Le'Veon Bell or Todd Gurley. Nonetheless, both players are viewed as guys that teams could give up a top-three round pick in the Supplemental Draft.

The Giants submitted a third-round bid for Sam Beal and landed the Western Michigan cornerback.

Bank of Canada Hikes Interest Rate to 1.50%, CAD Climbs in Response
As in April, the projection incorporates an estimate of the impact of trade uncertainty on Canadian investment and exports. Money markets see a almost 70 per cent chance of further Bank of Canada tightening by December.

As a quick summary, know that the draft order is different from April's. The team must forfeit the corresponding round pick in the next regular draft, though. Does that mean the Colts should take a chance? That was a shame because it would have been the second selection of that round, number 57 overall.

If another team that wasn't in the playoffs last season put in a third-round bid for Beal, along with the Chiefs, he would go that other team. It's a risk to spend a second-round pick in the supplemental draft. He had another productive year in 2016, recording 63 tackles and three interceptions. He chose to return to school, but at the start of spring practice he was suspended indefinitely, and later declared for the Supplemental Draft.

The Texans, however, are primed to make a splash in the supplemental draft.

There have been eight players who entered the league as first-round picks in the Supplemental Draft, a lot of them quarterbacks and most during the 1980s. That list started with Wilson to New Orleans, as noted above, and then continued with Kosar in 1985.

Kosar, Humphrey and Moore are among the supplemental picks that worked out well for their teams, as was Navy offensive lineman Mike Wahle to Green Bay in 1998.

The G-Men likely won't receive a 2019 compensatory pick after free-agent additions Nate Solder, Patrick Omameh and Kareem Martin. The field is limited to players who are at least three years removed from high school but have lost collegiate eligibility, usually for academic or legal reasons.
