Israel Shuts Vital Crossing, But Gazans Will Not 'Die in Silence'

Members of the Hamas terror arm, Ezzedeen Al-Qassam Brigades, in Deir Al Balah refugee camp, central Gaza Strip, May 6, 2018.

The shuttered Kerem Shalom crossing is Gaza's main conduit for trade - albeit under years of Israeli restrictions.

"The damage being caused to agricultural lands in Israel is grave and deplorable, but collectively punishing almost two million people in Gaza by closing its only official crossing for the movement of goods is both illegal and morally depraved", it wrote on Twitter.

"The decision of the Israeli government to close the only terminal leading to the Gaza Strip is a war crime against our people who are already dispossessed, and this will deepen the humanitarian crisis in Gaza", stated Hamas spokesman Hazem Qasem.

By which Hamas means Israel must not slap the dog that bites its hand. "I am not detailing them".

Wildfires have razed 7,000 acres of forests and farmland, Israel says.

Israel's military said the prime minister had ordered the closure of Kerem Shalom on Monday "in light of the ongoing arson terror and additional terror attempts, led by the Hamas terror organization".

Translation: In addition (to closing the crossing), the extension of the Gaza Strip fishing zone to nine miles for the fishing season will expire, returning today to six miles.

Worldwide and regional silence for the crime of the suffocating siege imposed on the Gaza Strip for (nearly) 12 years has encouraged the Israeli enemy to carry on with its criminal measures that violate human rights and global laws.

Gaza health officials say more than 130 Palestinians have been killed and 15,000 others injured by Israeli forces during the protests.

Hamas, which has fought three wars with Israel since 2008, called on the worldwide community to intervene immediately to prevent what it called a "new crime against humanity".

This comes after Hamas launched flaming kites and balloons into Israel, and attacked the Israeli security personnel at the Gaza border fence. During the first march, 16 Palestinians were killed and hundreds were wounded.

Since 2007, the Gaza Strip has groaned under a crippling Israeli blockade that has gutted its economy and deprived its roughly 2 million inhabitants of many basic commodities.

Israeli naval forces on Tuesday intercepted a Palestinian humanitarian flotilla that attempted to break the years-long blockade of Gaza.
