Greta Gerwig’s ‘Little Women’ May Star Meryl Streep, Emma Stone, Timothee Chalamet

How many adaptations of Little Women can we pack into the next few years?

According to the outlet, Lady Bird's Saoirse Ronan and Timothée Chalamet are in talks to star in the movie (based on the Louisa May Alcott novel of the same name, which has gone through numerous adaptations), along with Florence Pugh, Emma Stone and Meryl Streep. Varietyreports that Gerwig is in talks to direct a film adaptation of Little Women. Ronan and Chalamet also starred in "Lady Bird" and are said to be in consideration to play, respectively, protagonist Jo March and jilted love interest Laurie in the beloved bildungsroman. Rounding out the sisters would be the older Meg (Stone) and the younger Amy (Pugh), with Streep of course playing the matriarch Marmee, taking care of her four daughters.

Lady Bird writer and director Greta Gerwig has set Little Women as her next film, EW has confirmed. Sources tell Variety that Gerwig is on board once she secures her "dream cast", which the above actors may very well be. The story was most recently adapted just this year for the BBC in a miniseries starring Emma Watson, but the most famous version would be the Winona Ryder-led one from 1994.

There's no telling when it will be back, but be ready to practice patience when queuing up to jump into Playground Mode with your friends.

Little Women had been adapted several times into feature films and was recently made into a BBC miniseries that aired late past year.

But I do slightly worry over the "retelling" aspect of this classic story.
