Canada becomes 2nd country to fully legalize marijuana

Just 24-hours after the Canadian Senate approved the final draft of the Cannabis Act (C-45), ending more than 90 years of cannabis prohibition in the Great What North, Trudeau told reporters that he was giving provinces more time to prepare for legalization by postponing the launch date until October 17.

This comes shortly after Canadian lawmakers passed the bill to legalize marijuana in the country via a 52-29 vote in the Senate. Phillip's, and says the eight per cent commission fee means he would have to sell $375,000 in cannabis products per month to squeak by.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made the passing of the bill a priority when he was elected in 2015.

Justin Trudeau tweeted that because it's too easy for kids to buy weed, "criminals reap the profits".

"And therefore we do not want to encourage in any way people to engage in that behaviour until the law is changed".

The justice minister, Jody Wilson-Raybould, also applauded the vote.

"This is a historic milestone for our industry and for our country that will reverberate around the world as Canada solidifies its progressive leadership on cannabis", said Vic Neufeld, CEO of Aphria in a press release.

One of the biggest concerns for Canadians has been where people will be allowed to consume cannabis. This legislation changes the impaired driving laws to give police new powers to conduct roadside intoxication tests, including oral fluid drug tests, and makes it illegal to drive within two hours of being over the legal limit.

"I believe that's premature", Blair said when asked Wednesday about the likelihood of pardons.

Writing in the Daily Telegraph, he said the U.K.'s drug policy is "inappropriate, ineffective and utterly out of date" and that the "battle is effectively over".

The government says drug screening devices are now being evaluated to meet Canadian standards and will provide law enforcement with an additional tool to detect drug-impaired driving should Bill C-46 be passed by Parliament and receive Royal Assent. Those 18 and older in Canada will be allowed to have as much as 30 grams of dried Cannabis in public, share as much as 30 grams of cannabis with other adults and cultivate as many as four home plants per household.

Canada, finally, is catching up with Washington state.

However, stringent rules will still govern the purchase and use of marijuana.

"As a teacher, the Prime Minister should know that education doesn't happen overnight", Mr Smith said in a statement.

It now makes Canada the second country to have a nationwide, legal marijuana market, after Uruguay. By comparison, the minimum consumption age for marijuana in all the USA states that have legalized recreational use is 21, corresponding to the higher drinking age.
