Stokes, Woakes to miss rest of England ODIs vs Australia

With defeats to England in the first two ODIs, Australia's ranking reflects their sudden downturn as a side since defeating Pakistan in January 2017.

The 34-year-old left-hander was recalled to the Australia squad for the five-match series against England after more than a year out.

The slip in the ODI rankings for Australia comes as a result of their defeat in the first two ODI's against England, the world's number one-ranked side in this format.

"He has had an injection for the knee issue last Monday and will now undertake rehabilitation and conditioning programme to address both injuries".

However, the European Central Bank said that Stokes would continue his rehabilitation programme during the fourth and fifth ODIs and is expected to make a return in T20I series against India next month. Whether the injuries were related to that preparation is hard to say but England may look at how they manage their fast-bowlers ahead of early season Tests in future years. He will commence his return to bowling programme this week.

Australia will take on England in the third match of the bilateral series on June 19 in a bid to achieve their first win of the series and also avoid a series loss.

"Stokes can bat fully and is now able to run at 90 percent capacity".

Stokes will be with the squad for the fourth and fifth ODIs in the hope that he is fit to play in the T20s against India in July.

"IPL is a great thing for players to have the opportunities to improve themselves, at the same time as earning a hell of a lot of money, but I think next year will be tricky", he said. Meanwhile, skipper Eion Morgan, who was ruled out due to a back spasm is expected to return for training.
