'Star Wars Story' spin-offs frozen in carbonite as Disney mulls series future

According to Collider, sources familiar with the matter are stating Disney LucasFilm has made a decision to place any plans for new spinoffs on hold and instead focus their attention on Star Wars: Episode IX and the next trilogy that follows. The next two entries were rumored to be an Obi-Wan Kenobi movie directed by Stephen Daldry (The Reader, The Hours) and a Boba Fett movie written and directed by James Mangold (Logan, 3:10 to Yuma). Lucasfilm's development process is notoriously mysterious, so this is simply a snapshot of where things stand right now in the Star Wars universe.

Of course the May release date could have had something to do with Solo's disappointing performance. Abrams and Rian Johnson, Solo went head-to-head with a slew of summer blockbusters in May, opening mere weeks after box office juggernauts Avengers: Infinity War and Deadpool 2.

Continuing, he said, "I never thought this would happen". "I definitely think it's in the genes", he told the Daily Mail . Then, eight years ago, he confessed to struggling with his sexuality throughout their marriage and the couple divorced.

This absolutely doesn't mean we're not getting more Star Wars though. Josh Trank (Chronicle) was developing a Boba Fett movie around the same time Gareth Edwards (Godzilla) was prepping Rogue One, but Trank was subsequently removed from the project and Lucasfilm lost a film off its planned slate. Phil Lord and Christopher Miller were fired in the middle of shooting "Solo", with Ron Howard taking over. That could be because future Star Wars spinoff films are now on hold, at least, according to a report Wednesday from Collider. The film's May release was always regarded as a little risky just five months after The Last Jedi, with every Star Wars film previously occupying the prestigious Christmas "event movie" slot - and there was much talk of why it was necessary to tamper with a beloved character who was already so well-established.

More as we hear it.
