Deputy killed, another wounded in shooting in Kansas City

In 2015, Wyandotte County Deputy Scott Wood was shot seven times but survived.

The shooting happened Friday as an unidentified inmate was being moved.

The deputy that died was identified as Deputy Patrick Rohrer, 35.

"I was deeply saddened to learn of the tragic shooting of two sheriff's deputies outside the Wyandotte County Courthouse earlier this morning".

FOX4 reported that this was the fourth officer-related shooting in the past three years in Kansas City.

Deputy Theresa King, 44, was also killed. King was a 13-year veteran of the department.

Zeigler said both deputies were taken to KU Med Center for treatment.

The shooting is under investigation. Police Capt. Lionel Colón says he doesn't know if the woman was armed when she was killed.

The name of the wounded deputy and the suspect were not released by Friday afternoon.

The shooting occurred outside the courthouse annex, near the area where inmates are transported.

According to the website, "To separate immigrant families, victims of violence, hunger and poverty, is to re-violate them". They say in part, "As parents, it is unconscionable that the US government is actively tearing apart immigrant families".

Additional information was not released.

"At first it looked like it was a harmless fight", witness Matthew Sinno said.

The investigation is being handled by the Kansas City Police Department. In the other incident, a standoff ended when a sword-wielding woman who fled from police later was shot after attempts to negotiate peacefully proved unsuccessful.

An inmate fatally shot one sheriff's deputy and critically injured another outside a courthouse in Kansas City Friday morning.

However, he was still going through the Wyandotte County Court system due to previous pending charges for a carjacking and witness intimidation in KCK.

"It is very possible that with their own firearm - they were both shot", she said.

There is surveillance video of the scene, Blair added. Kelli Bailiff said during a news conference at the University of Kansas Hospital.

He referred questions about their conditions to the sheriff's department, which hasn't returned a phone message.

'Our hearts break for our brothers and sisters at Wyandotte County Sheriff's Office as well as for the loved ones of the deputies shot today, one of whom has died.

The shooting happened before 11:17 a.m. Friday near the corner of 8th Street and Ann Avenue. The juvenile's condition is unknown.
