First hurricane of Pacific season, Aletta, weakens to remnant low

The hurricane season is striking well ahead of schedule.

As Bud strengthens, swells from the storm "are likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions" along the west coast of Mexico, according to the hurricane center.

If the system reaches tropical storm strength, it will be given the name Beryl. "[Its current] track will take Bud over cooler waters, causing it to begin weakening on Tuesday".

By mid-morning on Tuesday, Bud was moving towards the northwest at around 6 mph (9 km/h) and was around 325 miles (523 kilometers) south-southeast of Cabo San Lucas.

Hurricane Bud is churning off the coast of western Mexico in the Pacific Ocean Tuesday as a Category 3 hurricane with winds of 125 miles per hour.

U.S., Canada and Mexico to Host World Cup in 2026
Of the Moroccan support of note, Brazil, Italy, France, Qatar and North Korea opted to back the African country. Hosting rights for previous World Cups had been awarded by what was then a 24-person FIFA Executive Committee.

Though forecasters said that "environmental conditions could became slightly conducive for some development" towards the end of the week, the system is now only at a 10 percent chance of forming into a cyclone in the next two days and 20 percent in the next five days. Computer models show the potential for 4 to 8 inches, with isolated amounts up to 10 inches.

Beyond that, the remnants of Bud should bring welcome rain to the parched and fire-ravaged Southwest U.S., potentially bringing the first in three months to cities such as Phoenix and Tucson.

"People in the zones of the states with forecast of rains, wind and waves, including maritime navigation, are recommended to take extreme precautions and to comply with the recommendations issued by the authorities", Mexico's meteorological service said in a statement.

Hurricane Bud is strengthening at this hour off the western coast of Mexico.
