Raccoon scales St. Paul office tower, internet goes wild

The adventurous animal was first spotted Monday on a second-story ledge of the Town Square building.

For now, the 23rd-floor ledge ― almost the top of the building ― has become the raccoon's resting spot. As of just before 4:30 p.m., it was resting 23 stories up.

It's the whole talk of MPR today (follow the #mprraccoon hashtag on social media, and find more coverage at MPR News), but I'm nearly afraid to watch. That's when it started climbing.

The building emblazoned with the logo of the UBS bank is next door to the MPR offices in St Paul, Minnesota, leaving the public broadcaster with a clear view of the ascending mammal, NPR reported.

The video above, shown by raccoon watcher @manchelster was one of many to hit the internet. However, the raccoon seemed to have deemed it time for some rest around the 23rd floor.

It didn't take long for reporters, Twitter, and the city of St. Paul to rally behind the creature.

As the raccoon climbed higher and higher on Tuesday, animal welfare officials hoped that it would reach the roof of the UBS Plaza building so it could be trapped.

It's safe to assume at this point, the raccoon wants nothing more than to get safely home-and we're rooting for him all the way there.

St. Paul Animal Control believes it may have been there all night before starting its climb.
