Monaco reach agreement in principle to sell Lemar to Atletico Madrid

Arsenal failed to sign Lemar, 22, in last summer's transfer window, while he was also a £60m target for Liverpool.

Maybe Thomas Lemar's proposed move bodes well for Antoine Griezmann's future at Atletico Madrid.

But rather than stating where he will be playing next season, Griezmann will only announce if he's staying or leaving Atletico Madrid.

The 22-year-old is now at the World Cup with France, who are due to play their first game of the tournament on Saturday against Australia.

"The two clubs will continue to work in the coming days in order to find a definitive agreement".

But Griezmann has remained tight-lipped on his decision, refusing to reveal his future destination just yet.

After announcing a press conference for Tuesday afternoon, it seemed that he was set to announce where he will play next season, only to opt against it. "The decision is complicated, I am calm", he said.

It is the second successive summer that Griezmann has been the subject of speculation over a big-money switch away from the Rojiblancos.

While Manchester United have been linked with Griezmann previously, Deschamps said the forward was staying in Spain.

Griezmann has scored 112 goals and assisted a further 40 strikes in 209 games for Atletico since his arrival at the Vicente Calderon in 2014.

Lemar, who joined Monaco from Caen in 2015, was a key player for the principality club when they reached the Champions League semifinals in the 2016-17 season.
