Police said Mannino was honored with the department's Life Saving Award on June 7. Mannino parked his cruiser to block traffic, then ran to the little boy who was eventually reunited with his mother.

Sgt. Anthony Mannino, a 24-year veteran of the Naperville, IL, Police Department, is being called a hero for his actions last month.

"I have twin boys, and there's not a day that goes by where something bad happens, you always think of your own kids", Mannino said.

A heroic police officer rescued a child wandering in the middle of a highway in IL.

After about 30 strides, Mannino catches the child, according to the dashcam footage. Mannino then tells dispatchers he would begin looking for the boy's parents.

An officer is seen rescuing a toddler running along a busy road in a Chicago suburb in a heart-stopping video.

No one was hurt, which the police department attributes to Mannino's "observation while on patrol and quick reaction, placing his squad auto and himself between the child and traffic".

No charges were filed against the mother, and police ruled the incident was an accident.
